About

I have been involved in the construction industry as a practitioner, teacher and researcher for over 30 years.

I spent a number of years working as a site engineer / site manager in the West Midlands area, on building and civil engineering projects (some of which are still standing!).  After completing a BSc (Hons) in Building Construction and Management at Reading University I went on to study for a PhD and commenced my full-time academic career working as a research fellow, both at Reading University. Then I took up a lecturing post at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST)  [now part of the University of Manchester] teaching on construction-related undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  In July 1998 I left the UK to take up a senior lecturer’s post at the University of Newcastle in Australia where I taught on full-time, distance learning and offshore (Singapore and Malaysia) construction management courses concentrating, in particular, on advanced construction management and research dissertation modules.  This involved the development of distance learning materials in paper and web-based formats.  Research activity at Newcastle included University small research grants and involvement in the Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation [CRC-CI] ( http://www.construction-innovation.info/ ) working on research projects in collaboration with CRC-CI academic and industry partners.

I left the University of Newcastle in February 2005 to take up his current position at Wolverhampton.  On leaving Australia I was appointed as a Conjoint (visiting) Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle.  I now teach on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
